Organized by the Department of Health, Seniors and Long-Term Care, the 2025 Manitoba Healthy Aging Awards (MHAA) will celebrate Manitobans, ages 65 and older, who have made an outstanding voluntary contribution to improve the health, wellbeing and mental wellness of older adults as they age in their homes and communities. Additionally, MHAA will recognize Manitobans (of any age) or organization whose voluntary contribution have created innovative solutions to improve the health and well-being of older adults through intergenerational activities. This year's MHAA includes the Older Adult of the Year Award, Healthy and Active Living Ambassador Award, Intergenerational Impact Award and the new Mental Wellness Champion Award.

2025 Award Categories

Older Adult of the Year Award

The Older Adult of the Year Award recognizes Manitoba individuals aged 65 and older who demonstrate outstanding leadership in advocating for health care services. The award celebrates older Manitobans who advocate for and developed community initiatives to ensure older adults have access to comprehensive health care services, including preventative care. Award winners embody the spirit of healthy aging, resilience and community engagement.

Eligibility Criteria:
  • A Manitoba resident age 65 years of age or older
  • Advocates for health services through writing, community organizing, public speaking or other mediums
  • Makes an impact on community health through initiatives, programs and educational efforts
  • Voluntary contributions must have been made when the individual was 65 years old or older
  • Voluntary contributions must have been made in Manitoba
  • Nominations will not be accepted for elected federal, provincial or municipal representative or whose activity is related to a position as a political appointee

Healthy and Active Living Ambassador

Healthy and Active Living Ambassador Award

The Healthy and Active Living Ambassador Award honours Manitoba individuals aged 65 and older who actively contribute to helping older adults stay physically active in their communities. The award winner's efforts have a significant impact on the health and well-being of older adults through promoting physical activity and fitness.

Eligible Criteria:
  • A Manitoba resident age 65 years of age or older
  • Leads or has led organized community-based activities, programs or events that encouraged and inspired older adults to remain physically active
  • Voluntary contributions must have been made in Manitoba
  • Voluntary contributions must have been made when the individual was 65 years old or older
  • Nominations will not be accepted for elected federal, provincial or municipal representative or whose activity is related to a position as a political appointee

Intergenerational Impact Award

The Intergenerational Impact Award recognizes the voluntary contribution of Manitobans (of any age) or organization (whose intergenerational activities are led by volunteers) that have created innovative solutions to improve the health of older adults in the community through meaningful intergenerational activities and connections. Recipients exhibit devotions to improving older Manitobans' lives and preventative health care through bridging generational barriers and cultivating meaningful connections.

Eligibility Criteria:
  • A Manitoba resident or non-profit organization in Manitoba
  • Demonstrates creativity and initiative in planning, developing and implementing intergenerational programs or activities that promote health and well-being
  • Actively involves multiple generations in meaningful activities that enhance the quality of life of older adults
  • Voluntary contributions must have been made in Manitoba
  • Nomination will not be accepted for elected federal, provincial or municipal representative or whose activity is related to a position as a political appointee

Mental Wellness Champion Award

Mental Wellness Champion Award

The Mental Wellness Champion Award recognizes Manitobans aged 65 and older who have worked to implement or advance mental health initiatives in their community. Award winners are leaders in promoting mental health awareness, reducing stigma and contributing to the mental wellness of their community.

Eligibility Criteria:
  • A Manitoba resident age 65 years of age or older
  • Leads or has led organized initiatives, programs or events to improve and/or support mental health and mental wellness in their communities
  • Leader in promoting mental health awareness and reducing stigma
  • Voluntary contributions must have been made when the individual was 65 years old or older
  • Voluntary contributions must have been made in Manitoba
  • Nominations will not be accepted for elected federal, provincial or municipal representative or whose activity is related to a position as a political appointee
