Manitoba Advancing Futures Bursary

Overview
The Advancing Futures Bursary (AFB) supports students currently or previously in the care of a Manitoba Child and Family Services (CFS) agency who are pursuing post-secondary education at a recognized institution in Manitoba. The bursary is intended to assist students with education costs and help them achieve academic and employment success.
Eligibility Criteria
Students may be eligible for a bursary up to $10,000 and must meet ALL the following criteria:
- Resident of Manitoba
- Currently or previously in the care of a Manitoba Child and Family Services agency
- Currently enrolled and attending a recognized post-secondary institution in Manitoba either part-time or full-time during the September 2025 to May 2026 academic year
Previous applicants and recipients of Advancing Futures Bursary are eligible to re-apply. Priority will be given to first time applicants.
How Do I Apply
- Review the Advancing Futures Bursary application.
- Ensure you meet all eligibility requirements outline below.
- Complete the Advancing Futures Bursary application and consent form.
- Submit your completed application including a copy of your most recent academic transcript (official transcript preferred) by:
- Email: youthpartnerships@gov.mb.ca
- Mail: 230-800 Portage Avenue Winnipeg, MB R3G 0N4
Incomplete applications will NOT be considered.
NOTE: First time applicants are required to provide a letter from their current or previous CFS agency confirming they are or have been a former ward of the agency. Previous applicants are not required to provide such a letter.
Assessment Process
- Applicants will receive an acknowledgment email to confirm submission. If you do not receive this confirmation within 7 business days, please contact us immediately at youthpartnerships@gov.mb.ca.
- When an application is received, it will be reviewed and assessed based on the program eligibility.
- If required, applicants will be contacted by the program area, or another government representative to discuss the following:
- Any additional information needed for the assessment of the application.
- Resources and supports available to assist with application process.
- Applicants will be notified of eligibility decision by email.
- If an application has been approved for Advancing Futures Bursary, information on the payment process will be included.
- If an application is not selected for bursary, program staff will identify the basis for this decision in the notification letter.
Program Priorities
Priority will be given to:
- First-time applicant
- Full-time students
- Applicants who demonstrate a financial need
- Applicant with good academic standing (minimum 2.00 GPA)
