Watercraft Inspection Program

We all have a role in protecting Manitoba from aquatic invasive species (AIS).

The annual AIS watercraft inspection program is underway. The program's goal is to inform and help water users from spreading AIS to different water bodies.

The watercraft inspection program operates from late spring through the summer and into the middle of fall. There is no fee to use this service.

Moving between different water bodies increases the chance of spreading AIS. To reduce this risk anyone travelling with a watercraft overland must stop at all open watercraft inspection stations along your route of travel.

When arriving at a station, watercraft inspectors will inspect your watercraft and all water-related equipment to ensure items are properly cleaned, drained and dried.

Inspectors can also:

  • demonstrate how you can properly clean, drain and dry your watercraft and water-related equipment.
  • answer your AIS-related questions.
  • decontaminate your watercraft and water-related equipment on site, if required.

Watercraft inspection station locations and operating hours can be found clicking here.

Know Before You Go

Reminder:

  • anyone transporting motorized or non-motorized watercraft overland must stop at all open watercraft inspection stations along your route of travel.
  • a watercraft means a canoe, kayak, fishing boat, sailboat, personal watercraft (Jet Ski®), SUPs or other thing designed to transport a person on water.
  • water-related equipment (e.g., inflatables, anchor, fishing gear) that have come into contact with a water body will also be inspected.

Set fines for aquatic invasive species (AIS) offences are in effect year-round.

The AIS open-water season checklist is step-by-step resource that can help you comply with the Manitoba government's AIS Regulation.

Note:

  • The watercraft inspection schedule is subject to change with short notice. Please check the schedule as close as possible to your planned travel time.
  • Expect to be inspected and plan your trip accordingly.
  • Decontamination units are generally available at all stations unless otherwise stated or if something occurs beyond our control.
  • Headingley Station: Due to construction at the Headingley weigh scales the watercraft inspection station will not be set up at that location for the 2026 season. The program is actively looking for alternate locations in Headingley and will update this page should another location become available.
