The Manitoba government supports internationally educated nurses (IENs) with a streamlined pathway and financial support to help IENs begin working as nurses in the province sooner.

How To Apply

Step 1: Apply to the National Nursing Assessment Service (NNAS)

The first step is to apply to the National Nursing Assessment Service (NNAS). The NNAS will collect, verify, and assess your eligibility and provide their advisory report. Once the NNAS report is complete you may apply to the Manitoba regulatory nursing college relevant to you.

NEW - There is an expedited process for licensed practical nurses: you can apply to the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba (CLPNM) while waiting for the NNAS to complete the process and issue your advisory report.

Step 2: Apply to the relevant Manitoba regulatory nursing college

Each college has different requirements and education programs.

Step 3: Clinical Competency Assessments (CCA)

To identify any competency gaps, you will complete clinical competency assessments to demonstrate your knowledge, skills and judgment in practicing entry-level competencies.

Step 4: Bridging Program

Based on your CAA results, your regulatory college will refer you to complete education such as a full bridging program or select courses, if needed.

Step 5: Examinations

You must successfully complete the approved examination for registration in Manitoba.

Step 6: Registration

You will be eligible to apply for registration with your regulatory college once successful examination results have been received.

What’s new?

  • The College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba does not require proof of immigration status.
  • Language Proficiency - You are no longer required to provide proof of language proficiency to open a file with the CRNM or CLPNM. However, proof of language proficiency must be provided prior to registering as a nurse.
  • Clinical Competency Assessment - You may complete a CCA for a second time if the initial CCA results did not meet your expectations.
