Adoptive Parent of a Minor Child

Manitoba Post-Adoption Services for adoptive parents of a child (18 years of age or younger):

Register for Contact/Search with the Birth Family:

Register for 'contact only' or 'contact and search' services on behalf of your adopted child for a birth family member including:

  • Your child's birth mother
  • Your child's birth father
  • Your child's maternal birth siblings
  • Your child's paternal birth siblings

By registering for contact only, Manitoba Post Adoption Services will:

  • Notify you if a birth family member registers to have contact with you/your child.
  • Share identifying information (full name, date of birth, and contact information) with your child's birth family member if they also register.
  • Facilitate a reunion by assisting both parties with establishing direct contact with each other.

By registering for contact and search services, Manitoba Post-Adoption Services will also:

  • Search for your selected birth family member(s) if they are 18+ years of age.
  • If located, the birth family member(s) will be advised of your interest in contact and will be given the opportunity to register in order to have a reunion with you/your child.

NOTE: A search can only be performed for individuals named in the Department's records. A search is not performed for any person under 18 years of age or who has filed a Veto, Contact Preference, or past refusal.

Eligibility:

An adoptive parent of a minor child (18 years of age or younger) who had their adoption granted in Manitoba.

NOTE: Application for service on behalf of a child 12 years of age or older requires the consent of the child. Your registration is valid until your child reaches 18 years of age, at which time they must register or provide consent for you to remain registered.

An adoptive parent of a minor child who had their adoption granted outside of Manitoba, must apply for apply for services hrough the jurisdiction where the adoption was granted.
