Manitoba Municipal Heritage Site No. 352
Designation Date: December 14, 2009 Hill’s Drug Store is at once an excellent example of the kind of small commercial establishments that lined any Manitoba main street around the turn of the twentieth century, as well as a rare example that has maintained its original function for more than a century, having opened as a pharmacy in 1901. The original owner, J. K. Hill, whose name still defines the building, commissioned a structure that is a textbook expression of the Romanesque style that was employed on so many of Manitoba’s commercial buildings, but which is becoming increasingly rare through redevelopment. With is corner location, and enduring presence, Hill’s Drug Store is an important landmark in the community’s downtown core.
