Winnipeg Divorce File Index, 1917-1984

This index was created by the Archives of Manitoba to facilitate access to Winnipeg divorce files. The index covers all Winnipeg divorce files (ATG 0009A) from 1917 to 1984.

This index was created from the microfilmed index for these records originally created by the Court of Queen’s Bench (ATG 0210, GR3722, microfilm reel M1228). The original paper indices were also consulted (ATG 0210, GR11659 and GR11199) and some divorce files (ATG 0009A) were also checked to verify names and file numbers and fill in gaps in the index.

This index includes the names of both parties, year of divorce proceedings and file number. All of this information is needed to find and request the divorce file.

Note that file numbers may appear twice in the index – once for each of the parties’ names. Note all names associated with the file number to make a request to view the file.

Note that sometimes the same name occurs with two different file numbers. Note all file numbers associated with the name you are looking for and make a separate request for each file number.

Once you have located a file number or numbers, proceed to Step 2: Find the location code.
