Vision Statement

A vision statement conveys the agriculture or rural organization’s dream. It motivates the board, staff and volunteers to achieve greatness and helps to develop a picture of the organization’s desired future.

The vision statement serves as a foundation for all strategies developed and applied.
 

Creating a vision statement


Key components of a vision statement
      • communicates hopes and dreams
      • appeals to common values about the organization
      • states positive expectations
      • encourages and manages change 


Future-based statement that indicates

      • Where are we going?
      • Where does the organization want to be?
      • What do we want to accomplish?
      • What does success look like?


Vision statements may begin with

      • Promoting….
      • To develop….
      • To create…..
      • Our vision is to….

Suggested length: 10 to 25 words (short powerful statement)
 
Test your vision statement:
      • Is it concise?
      • Is the meaning clear?
      • Can members of your organization remember it? 

 

Tips for creating a vision statement

      • Use simple language that inspires.
      • Involve the board, staff and volunteers to brainstorm ideas and develop the vision statement.
      • Make a motion to approve and adopt the organization’s vision statement at a board meeting.
